TCV Legislative Update – February 1, 2019
The Legislative Session is officially in full swing as this is the first full week the legislature has met! As we approach the deadline to file bills next week (February 6th for the House and February 7th in the Senate), we will see more bills filed in the next few days. We will keep our bill reports fairly thorough until we get a clearer picture on what the intent of each bill is and whether it will gain momentum. Follow the link below to review the bills we are tracking:
TCV Weekly Bill Report – February 1, 2019
It will not be a huge week for big environmental bills to be heard in committee. There are two sunset bills on notice for next week. SB155 and SB156 are being reviewed in the Senate Government Operations Committee on Wednesday, February 6th at 9:30am. The committee will review these bills to determine the extension of the southern states energy board and the Southern States Nuclear Compact until June 30, 2027.
Save the Date for Conservation Education Day on the Hill!
Conservation Education Day will be held on March 5th-6th this year. Conservation Education Day is a joint effort of the Tennessee Environmental Council, the Tennessee Sierra Club, and the Tennessee Conservation Voters. This is an opportunity for people who care about environment and conservation issues to meet with their state legislators to promote the passage of bills which preserve and protect our water, air and lands, and attempt to block bills which would bring harm to our precious environment. There will be legislative skills training the night before legislative visits on Tuesday March 5th. Meetings with legislators will be on Wednesday, March 6th, from 9 am to 4 pm at the Cordell Hull building. Start scheduling meetings with your legislator now for March 6th!
